Lab IT Support Specialist

Job Description

Located at our large molecule headquarters in RTP, North Carolina, the Lab IT Support Specialist position presents an excellent opportunity for someone with understanding of IT systems to contribute to the smooth functioning of our laboratory operations. This role is suited for individuals with a keen interest in IT, an affinity for software and systems, and relevant experience in a similar setting. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for managing applications and systems and supporting users.

Critical Performance Areas

  • Detailed Software Knowledge:  Provide essential technical support for a variety of scientific applications, including but not limited to Chromeleon, SoftMax Pro, Methodical Mind software (MSD), and Kaleido software (Nexus). This role requires relevant experience in a GxP laboratory setting, specifically supporting chromatography applications and other laboratory-specific software applications
  • Application and System Administration: Oversee the administration of various applications and systems utilized within the laboratory environment. This includes ensuring their functionality through necessary upgrades and updates, basic troubleshooting, and coordinating with IT, Quality, Vendor and/or other system administrators as needed for support with more complex issues
  • User Support: Foster and maintain close relationships with all stakeholders to ensure continuous operation and timely resolution of issues. Provide basic technical support to users for applications and systems, troubleshoot common issues, and escalate complex problems to the IT team as needed. Serve as a point of contact for user inquiries and facilitate communication between users and IT personnel
  • Documentation and Reporting: Contribute to the maintenance of documentation related to system configurations, procedures, administration, and troubleshooting guides
  • Best practices: Identify and implement process improvements regarding laboratory application management and their infrastructure, processes, automations, and digitalization of laboratory workflows

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide technical support for a range of scientific applications, including but not limited to Chromeleon
  • Troubleshoot software issues to ensure continuous laboratory operations
  • Engage with laboratory personnel to understand their IT needs and deliver effective solutions
  • Conduct or support the business with software enhancements and upgrades as necessary
  • Act as local administrator for laboratory systems
  • Collaborate with the IT Operations team for system integration and optimization

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree or equivalent with 2+ years in relevant field. Additional education or training in IT-related fields is a plus
  • Basic understanding of IT concepts and familiarity with common software applications
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing environments
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and workflows
  • Audit experience
  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude in IT, software, and systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to quickly adjust and re-prioritize current tasks based on strategy or timeline changes from sources within QC Systems, within QC, or outside of QC with little lead time or notice

Other Desired Skills/Abilities

  • Relevant experience in a laboratory setting supporting chromatography applications (i.e., Chromeleon), and other laboratory software
  • Understanding of GMP regulations and data integrity requirements
