Record sales for Solvias AG in 2007
2007 was a record year for Basel-based Solvias AG, which increased its sales by 20%. Total revenue including licensing increased by CHF 10.5 million to CHF 63.5 million. Sales from international business topped those in Switzerland for the first time.In terms of the pharmaceutical industry, which is Solvias's main customer segment, the increase in sales recorded by the company exceeded average market growth. All of Solvias's business areas benefited from this momentum, posting double digit growth. The Synthesis and Catalysis segment led this growth thanks to a successful expansion in capacity with a new kilo laboratory.
In addition to strengthening and developing its existing customer relationships in 2007, Solvias AG gained new customers. This not only clearly indicates the high level of service and quality of Solvias's offer, but also the confidence which customers have in the company.
Solvias AG has a clear competitive advantage in its ability to appropriately combine analytical and synthetic competencies. Thanks to this combination, Solvias is able to offer expert assistance throughout the entire development process of pharmaceutical products. This product model is particularly attractive for biotech and emerging pharma companies.
Solvias's remarkable total solution has not gone unnoticed: At the CPhl international pharmaceutical trade fair in Milan last year, Solvias AG was awarded the European Outsourcing Award 2007 for the Most Effective Scale-Up/Tech Transfer.
Outlook
The current year has begun well as expected. Long-term growth should be possible in particular through the expansion of its scientific services and increasing staff numbers.
Solvias's sound growth and performance and the positive outlook are also apparent from its investments. The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Solvias's new headquarters at Kaiseraugst is due to take place in 2008, with completion and the move to the new site scheduled for mid-2010.
